In today's world, businesses are also defined by their contributions to society. At Rent a Space corporate philanthropy shines brightly as a beacon of goodwill and positive change. It's not just a buzzword in this family-owned Australian self storage company - it's a fundamental part of our social responsibility ethos.

Rent a Space's commitment to giving back to the community stems from a deep-seated belief in creating a better world, one where we try to play a modest but active role in uplifting those around us. Our commitment to social goodness is a genuine mission to make a tangible difference in people's lives.

At the heart of Rent a Space's philanthropic efforts lies a multifaceted approach to various aspects of community well-being. Through these Social Goodness Initiatives, we focus on community support, junior sport, corporate giving, and sustainability.

Rent a Space's Dedication to Positive Impact

Rent a Space's corporate giving program aims to make a positive impact by supporting and donating to charities aligned with our values.

We have a long-term partnership with the Nelune Foundation, an organisation that helps cancer patients and their families cope with the impact of cancer through the development of essential infrastructure and cancer-care services in public hospitals.

Our recent partnership with Neuroblastoma Australia supports vital research initiatives to help children affected by Neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Both are worthy causes that showcase our commitment to supporting cancer patients.

"Cancer is something which impacts the entire community. We believe in supporting not only cancer research, but importantly caring for patients during and after treatment. That's why we're so proud to support the Neuroblastoma Annual Run2Cure event, along with our long term support for the Nelune Foundation."
Thomas Whalan, CEO, Rent a Space Self Storage.

Funds raised from Neuroblastoma Australia's Run2Cure event, held in the Domain in early April, contribute to innovative research grants that are focused on improving Neuroblastoma treatment and survival rates.

Unfortunately, of the children diagnosed with high risk neuroblastoma, only half of them will survive. The children who do survive often have to endure life long side effects from their actual treatments due to the toxicity of the drugs they receive. These side-effects include hearing loss, infertility, heart and lung issues, bone and dental developmental problems, learning difficulties and an increased risk of getting a secondary cancer.

Current treatments for this cancer take around eighteen months and include extensive chemotherapy, surgery,  stem cell transplant, radiotherapy and immunotherapy.

A Neuroblastoma research grant provides vital seed funding for new ideas to be developed and tested in the laboratory with the expectation that they will lead to an improvement in the current treatments for neuroblastoma. The development period often takes over ten years, which is why it is so important to fund research now so it can help and save lives in the future.

"Our signature fundraising event, Run2Cure, has provided $1.7 million of research funding. Thanks to sponsors like Rent a Space and their invaluable support, this amount is far greater than it would be otherwise."
Lucy Jones, CEO, Neuroblastoma Australia

Other Practical Support When It's Needed

In times of crisis, Rent a Space stands shoulder to shoulder with the community, offering practical support to alleviate hardships caused by natural disasters. Whether it's floods, fires, or other emergencies, we extend a helping hand through donations, storage facilities, and other essential resources.

As a testament to our belief in the transformative power of sports, Rent a Space invests in supporting junior sporting teams across Sydney and the Macarthur region. Through twelve sponsorships and partnerships, we provide opportunities for children to develop essential life skills, foster friendships, and cultivate a positive attitude - all vital elements for a successful future.

As a four-time Olympian, Thomas Whalan has a personal passion for sport and this underscores Rent a Space's commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders and athletes, and making a meaningful difference.
